Labonte’s Auto School

For Rhode Islanders who have tried to enroll their son or daughter in driver education classes, the wait can be interminable. There are simply not enough classes, and the ones offered do not accommodate the schedules of active students. Labonte’s Auto School, just over the Massachusetts border, offered classes in the evenings, on weekends, and during school vacations. But the local teachers’ union was successful in pushing through a law that effectively blocked RI students from taking driver ed classes in MA.

Duffy & Shanley was able to orchestrate a campaign that helped bring to light the fact that this was not in the best interests of the students – or their tax-paying parents. Incessant publicity and repeated testimony helped bring the issues to light for legislators, who repealed the law. Today, Rhode Island students again have the option to choose the driver education class that best meets their schedule and lifestyle. And Labonte’s Auto School continues their good work.
