Narragansett Electric, now known as National Grid, was prepared to announce the donation of 230 acres of pristine waterfront property in North Kingstown, Rhode Island to the State. The land was to be preserved as a natural habitat in tribute to the late US Senator from Rhode Island John H. Chafee. The challenge? How to communicate the magnitude of the donation in January, when the land was relatively inaccessible and Narragansett Electric could not make the announcement on site.
Duffy & Shanley designed a special event at the Rhode Island Convention Center to frame the announcement, complete with a narrated video that showcased the beauty and significance of the land. The Agency supported the video with a brochure that documented the history of the property, and a complete press program for the event that featured the Governor of Rhode Island and the late Senator’s widow. The event brought front page, lead story coverage in the Providence Journal and significant broadcast coverage from local television stations (to whom the agency had fed b-roll used in the video production). Visibility was such that Narragansett Electric ended up winning several awards for the donation.
