In 2004, the State of Rhode Island's Tourism Division was planning to unveil the first television commercials promoting Rhode Island as a tourism destination in over 15 years. They asked D&S for assistance in maximizing the promotional value of the opportunity. We designed a State House event featuring the Governor – an unabashed champion of Rhode Island tourism. The agency used state-of-the-art flat screen video and sound technology to showcase the spots and filled the State House meeting room with the State's tourism and hospitality professionals for the unveiling.
The result was an electric and unifying moment for the State's tourism industry. The new TV spots were met with instant and universal acclaim, and the entire industry locally was abuzz with the fact that Rhode Island would be promoted on television once again. Media coverage of the launch was strong and solid in its praise for the state's promotional strategy. The Tourism Division fielded numerous requests for copies of the spots to use at meetings, conference and other venues. They even fielded an offer to use the spots in a movie trailer for a film that was shot in Rhode Island.
